What is an Anchor?
An Anchor is an organisation with a long-term commitment to Leeds and the ability to make a positive impact through the way it employs people, buys goods and services, delivers services and supports communities.
Anchors are typically:
- Rooted in Leeds and committed to its future
- Significant employers or community leaders
- Organisations with lasting local influence.
The impact of Anchors in Leeds
The Leeds Anchor Network is all about turning theory into practice and making the best possible use of the combined power we have as a network.
Together, members of the Leeds Anchor Network:
- Employ more than 61,000 people
- Support over 2,400 apprenticeships
- Spent £600m in Leeds in 2024/25, up £90m on the previous year
- Have reduced CO₂ emissions by 139,000 tonnes over five years.
- 90% of employees paid Foundation Real Living Wage or above (55,000 people)
